Avoid Injuries:  Stretch Your Hamstrings

Simple exercises can be helpful on their own or as part of a pre or post surgery treatment protocol.  There are numerous benefits to stretching your hamstrings such as better knee function, less back pain and improved athletic performance.   It is also very important to work on activating your quadriceps muscle.  A new simple exercise called the QuadCrunch can help you turn on the most important muscle around your knee.

Hamstring Injuries and PRP

Platelet rich plasma has been used now for years to treat hamstring injuries.  There is conflicting evidence about its value.  A recent American Journal of Sports Medicine article found PRP treated patients returned faster to competition.  

 
Biologic Orthopedics

Biologic orthopedic treatments such as platelet rich plasma and stem cell treatments are exploding worldwide.  A recent conference organized by the Rothman Institute brought together a variety of clinicians and researchers from around the world.  Round table sessions were then led and monitored by members of the media from Forbes, Sports Illustrated and ESPN among others.  It was a unique and interesting meeting that speaks to the level of interests that is rapidly rising.
