The websites for trampoline centers suggest they are part entertainment and part gym, and often require participants to sign a waiver acknowledging that, like any vigorous sporting activity, injuries can occur, but are rare and usually minor.
The pictures are especially enticing – wall-to-wall trampolines with lots of adults and children playing together, doing flips into the foam pit.
What could go wrong?
Catherine, age 13, attended one of these trampoline gyms with a friend and her friend’s mother. She was excited. After playing around with the group, she found the foam pit, and figured foam has to be safe, right? Deciding to do a back flip into the foam she came up short, hitting something hard and slamming her chin to her chest.
