  • The goals for OA management include controlling pain, limiting disability, improving function and slowing disease progression through use of published and proven guidelines. Recent guidelines, reviewed here, outline both nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic modalities for management of OA. Use of nutraceuticals or dietary supplements has become a popular pharmacologic option, and patients are constantly exposed to these offerings in the consumer media. This issue provides a summary of currently available, though sparse, evidence of efficacy and safety of the supplements most widely used for OA. Finally, outlined here is a comprehensive approach to patients presenting with hip pain, reviewing the appropriate historical features, physical examination and further evaluation, followed by a summary of the published treatment guidelines for management of OA of the hip.
