Recent guidelines, reviewed here, outline both nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic modalities for management of OA. Use of nutraceuticals or dietary supplements has become a popular pharmacologic option, and patients are constantly exposed to these offerings in the consumer media. This issue provides a summary of currently available, though sparse, evidence of efficacy and safety of the supplements most widely used for OA. Finally, outlined here is a comprehensive approach to patients presenting with hip pain, reviewing the appropriate historical features, physical examination and further evaluation, followed by a summary of the published treatment guidelines for management of OA of the hip.
